Welcome!

This blog is an attempt to provide easy access to the scores of folks who want to know, "how's Jan?" As she goes through the chapter of her life which started out being called "Tumor" and has progressed through "Biopsy," "Cancer," "Oh, My!," "Doctors," and "Chemo." I think now it's called "We Didn't Think the Road Would Be THIS Bumpy!"

Please "spread the word" so that others who are interested can get these updates.

Thank you all for your prayers.

Another Day, Same Headache

Today has been a mixed day. Jan started the day without nausea, was able to have a small breakfast, and was doing fairly well.

Except the headache. This is day 8 of a headache that ranges from pain level 9 to 2 or 3 - when medicated with morphine.

The hospitalist (I'm not making that up) Dr. Huntsman came in shortly after 8. He noted that there were some  bloodwork results that could use a minor adjustment - he would order same. He also saw test results that suggested a urinary track infection. That, too, would be addressed.   We expressed concern that the headache needed to be addressed in a way that would not keep her in the hospital on morphine. We also asked that he speak with Dr. Link (oncologist).

Later in the morning, Jan had an incident in which she lost her I V.  She was not immediately aware.  I was not there, but I guess it was a little messy. It was handled expeditiously; she now has a new I V.

She was able to ambulate around the unit a couple of times  :)

A decision was made to try to manage the headache with Percocet. Dr. Link agreed that she could not be discharged until the headache was gone or manageable with oral meds.

The Percocet did not work — headache came back big time. They restarted morphine.

Meanwhile, Jan was mostly tired, and began having a recurrence of nausea. As of this post, she has about a half hour before she can get more nausea meds.

She is mostly tired, weak, nauseated, and in pain. What started out as a good day has turned back into pretty much where we've been for a couple of days.

The RN said they'd try a different set of headache meds tomorrow.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. I'll try to post at least once a day. Please let folks know how to reach this blog:  CalPacJan@blogspot.com.

Blessings,
